Kerana Budaya, Rakyat Hidup Bahagia

Setiap bangsa pasti mempunyai keunikan tersendiri dalam budayanya. Menurut Prof. Madya Dr. Ma'rof Rezuan, Pensyarah Kanan Jabatan Sains Kemasyarakatan dan Pembangunan di Universiti Putra Malaysia, budaya adalah cara hidup sesuatu masyarakat (the way of life) yang terbahagi kepada dua iaitu berbentuk material dan bukan material.

• Budaya Material (biasanya kepakaran sesuatu seni itu diwarisi):
  rumah, senjata, perahu, pakaian, permainan, makanan

• Budaya Bukan Material (biasanya tidak dapat dilihat dengan mata kasar):
  adat istiadat, kepercayaan, pantang larang, nilai dan etika, kesusasteraan, undang-undang

Antara falsafah tersendiri yang sering menjadi pegangan hidup orang Melayu dalam mencorakkan budaya adalah:

   1.   Kesetiaan kepada Raja dan Negara

Masyarakat Melayu mempunyai kesetiaan yang tinggi kepada sultan atau raja sejak turun-temurun hingga pada masa kini walaupun telah mencapai era modenisasi. Sejarah masyarakat Melayu berkait rapat dengan institusi raja dan kesultanan Melayu. Ia juga merupakan prinsip kedua daripada lima prinsip yang terkan­dung di dalam Rukun Negara yang menjadi ideologi kebangsaan Ma­laysia. Prinsip ini menekankan kepada rakyat betapa pen­tingnya kesetiaan yang perlu ada dalam kalangan rakyat terhadap Raja, yang menjadi pemerintah negeri/negara. Amalan sistem demokrasi berparlimen dan raja berperlembagaan merupakan amalan yang dilaksanakan dalam sistem pentadbiran Malaysia. Benarlah terdapat pepatah Melayu menyebut, "Ada raja adat berdiri, tiada raja adat mati; Raja adil raja disembah, raja zalim raja disanggah". Nilai inilah yang membentuk peribadi masyarakat agar menjadi lebih berdisiplin.

   2.   Nilai Islam dalam Setiap Urusan

Agama rasmi di negara kita ialah agama Islam. Penghayatan nilai Islam akan memberi manfaat bukan sahaja kepada diri bahkan kepada seluruh umat. Firman Allah S.W.T. dalam Surah al-Ahzab ayat ke-21, "Demi sesungguhnya, adalah bagi kamu pada diri Rasulullah itu contoh ikutan yang baik, iaitu bagi orang yang sentiasa mengharapkan (keredhaan) Allah dan (balasan baik) hari akhirat, serta ia pula menyebut dan mengingati Allah banyak-banyak (dalam masa susah dan senang)". Sedar atau tidak, sifat mahmudah mampu menyatukan hati semua orang tanpa mengira siapa mereka dan akhlak yang ditonjolkan merupakan cerminan dalaman diri individu. Jika baik amalannya, maka baiklah juga dalamannya.

   3.   Meraikan dan Memuliakan Tetamu

Tetamu daripada Pelbagai Kaum

Jika dilihat dari perspektif agama Islam, tetamu hendaklah dilayan sebaik mungkin malah tuan rumah dituntut agar menjauhi daripada dikap mementingkan diri demi menjaga tetamu. Tetamu itu membawa rahmat dan rahmat itulah yang lebih menyerikan rumah itu. Hospitaliti yang disediakan hendaklah sebaik-baiknya mengikut kemampuan dan menyenangkan semua pihak. Tetamu ialah orang yang mengunjungi kita sama ada ahli keluarga, rakan, jiran ataupun orang yang tidak dikenali.

"Barangsiapa yang beriman kepada Allah dan hari akhirat, maka hendaklah ia memuliakan tetamunya." (Hadis Riwayat Bukhari dan Muslim)

   4.   Musyawarah (Mesyuarat) Penyelesaian Masalah

Mesyuarat merupakan salah satu sunnah baginda Rasulullah S.A.W. Firman Allah S.W.T. dalam Surah Ali Imran ayat ke-159, "... Dan juga bermesyuarat dengan mereka dalam urusan (peperangan dan hal-hal keduniaan) itu...". Jika diteliti era pemerintahan Khulafa' Ar-Rasyidin, musyawarah amat vital dalam pemilihan khalifah seterusnya. Tiga resepi utama dalam mencapai mesyuarat yang mantap dengan formula 'KAK':

1. Keharmonian
2. Agenda yang jelas
3. Komitmen semua ahli

   5.   "Biar Mati Anak, Jangan Mati Adat".

Tepak Sireh

Adat ialah kepercayaan masyarakat Melayu kuno yang diwarisi sejak turun-temurun dari satu generasi ke generasi seterusnya. Walau bagaimanapun, terdapat sesetengah adat Melayu yang bertentangan dengan Islam yang mana melibatkan kepercayaan kepada kuasa mistik iaitu menyandarkan harapan kepada sesuatu selain Allah. Namun begitu, adat Melayu diamalkan sesuai dengan zaman serba moden kini yang berlandaskan Islam. Generasi muda kini hendaklah menghormati dan mengamalkan adat yang mana ia merupakan adab diterapkan dalam Islam. Hal demikian dapat membina sahsiah diri sepadan dengan negara Malaysia yang dikenali sebagai negara Islam.
